Elected to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the first time in the year 2022 from Dhuri Constituency as CM candidate of Aam Aadmi Party. Prior to that remained Member of Parliament for two consecutive terms. Elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Sangrur Constituency for the first time in 2014 and remained, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for a complete term 2014-2019. In May 2019, again elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Sangrur Constituency and remained Member of Parliament 2019-2022 before having to resign for contesting election to the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Presently Chief Minister of Punjab. Runs a charitable NGO 'Lok Lehar Foundation' which helps kids with special needs.
